There are many excellent local charities and support groups which you can refer yourself to for counselling and mental health support.

Service offered: Information, advice and listening service for adults who have experienced or are experiencing mental health problems. Drop-in centre at Queen Street Methodist Central Hall Fri 12.30pm-3.30pm & at Whitby Evangelical Church Mon 12.30pm-3.30pm. Volunteer befriending scheme, Housing Support Service, Social Prescribing Support Service operating out of Castle Health Centre & Employment Support Service.

Service offered: Self-help group for people over 18 with experience of mental health problems, either personally or as carers/close relatives. Resource centre provides information about local services, also use of computers and internet access, art room, library and coffee bar. Lottery funded project to educate the wider community on the affects of sexual abuse and to support survivors of sexual abuse in childhood.

Service offered: Advocacy service where volunteer advocates are trained and matched with people over the age of 18 who are disadvantaged due to mental health problems, learning or physical disabilities or old age. Advocates assist their matched clients in addressing problems, expressing their needs, making informed choices and securing their rights as citizens. Parent’s advocacy scheme.
